Oh my Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
After a busy summer season at Snowdonia Classic Campers our attention returned with some excitement to the restoration of our project bus Lola, a 1971 early Bay VW campervan.
We bought Lola in the summer of 2017 when we were toying with the idea of setting up a classic VV campervan hire business. An idea that grew in strength over a few glasses of wine on holiday in the Dordogne and then cemented by a redundancy!
We found Lola in the south of England. She had been stripped to a shell and all her bits were in a lot of boxes, all ready for a full nut and bolt restoration. Although we used to own a splitscreen we didn’t know too much about the history of its successor the VW T2 bay; we thought we were just buying a Bay campervan but have since learnt we’d accidentally stumbled upon a little gem – an early Bay T2.
Our first job was to get Lola into her new home, Jon’s garage, for the next year or so. Jon had built an amazing giant rotisserie to put her on that could spin her right round which has been invaluable in her restoration. It was a delicate job but once on we’ve been able to easily manoeuvre her in and out of the garage as and when needed
Jon has spent many, many, many hours of prepping her body work and slowly rebuilding her.
After a lot of deliberation we chose to paint her in pastel white over niagra blue (an original VW T2 colour)
We loved Poppy's interior so much we thought we'd put the same type in Lola, it was so exciting picking this up and then seeing it fitted.
Two years later...
And here she is, and we’re rather proud of her.
Lola is available for hire this summer from August onwards, take a look at her vital statistics on her homepage which can be viewed HERE and check out her availability for your next road trip.
She is 2-berth, with a big comfy pull out bed. Later this year we will be adding a couple of bunks in her roof space which will be suitable for children aged 5 to 12.
Any questions about our latest camper just ask!
